PEARLFISHER - new plays for Scotland
Pearlfisher is a new theatre company which commissions and develops new plays for production in Scotland, and beyond. Allied to this is a fresh approach to talent development, working with emerging artists in all areas of performance and production, and cultivating paid apprenticeships and assistantships.
Our current and recent productions are:
Silkworm by Vlad Butucea, directed by Mojisola Elufowoju. This is a co-production with the Byre Theatre and made in association with Assembly Festival. It will be performing at Assembly Roxy from 3rd -29th August 2022.
The story of two women living in a Glasgow tower block, seeking asylum from the UK Home Office on the basis of their sexual orientation, and waiting to hear the result of their case. How do they prove their claim? A witty, intimate and intense study of two vulnerable, strong women as they seek the words to navigate their way through a savage system.
Assembly ART Award winner 2022. Fringe First Winner 2022
Sister Radio by Sara Shaarawi, co-commissioned with Stellar Quines, directed by Caitlin Skinner, plays at Pitlochry Festival Theatre from 25 August to 28 September in a Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Stellar Quines co-production.
Sisters Fatemeh and Shirin have been living together, in the same flat in Edinburgh, for 43 years. In this flat they cook, they read their coffee grains, they think about the fading memories of their childhood in Tehran and they listen to the radio. Although they live side by side, they never talk to one another. When a global pandemic hits and the sisters are locked in their flat, they are forced to reckon with their memories of a betrayal that changed the course of their relationship.
